HISTORY
We broke new ground
These days, it’s hard to imagine a world without the thousands of chain outlets spread throughout the country—familiar names that offer the exact same products and services, for the same price.
But back in 1976 , there really didn’t exist a family of franchised speedy car care centers offering the same basic services and quality. That is, until two gas station owners, who happened to be pals, dreamed up the concept over burgers one night after work.
What if?
What if we created a highly specialized car care center that focused solely on tune-ups? A speedy service center that got vehicles in and back out on the road in no time at all.
What if we started with four locations, not just one, so we could keep prices very low, thanks to increased buying power for parts and oil? And with our experienced mechanics, we could get the work done right, and in record time.
What if we offered a sure way for our customers to save money, and time, while keeping their vehicles in tip top condition?
What if those customers liked what we offered and kept coming back?
So Ken Davis and Larry Armstrong founded Quality Tune-Up on April 21, 1976—with four car care centers in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Mountain View and Cupertino, California.
It was an idea whose time had come. And some thirty years and over 40 locations later, Ken and Larry are still pals, and they’re still asking: What if?
